The University of Trieste (UniTS) is a medium-sized university with almost 18,000 students, 700 faculty staff and 700 administrative staff. It counts 10 departments, with over 70-degree programmes at the bachelor and master level, and about 20 PhD programmes, as well as short vocational masters, advanced masters and specialisation programmes. The University provides numerous cultural and professional opportunities in all disciplines.
The University was founded in 1924. The main University campus, where is the historic building and the majority of Departments, is in Trieste, Piazzale Europa on a hill overlooking the city. Other parts of the city host other Departments. Since 1989 the University has also a campus in Gorizia and since 1991 in Pordenone.
Among its key strengths, internationalization plays a central role. A large number of international students, about 8% of the total enrolment, one of the highest figures in Italy are enrolled at the University.
