The right place to live
for short or long period
Before moving it would be useful to book a room for the the first days and then looking for a long term accommodation that suits your pocket and needs. There are several options you may take into consideration, residences, renting a room or live by yourself.

ARDIS is the regional agency devoted to studying facilities rights. Its lodges are dedicated to students and PhDs enrolled with one of the regional universities, conservatories and ITS.

Be aware that anyone who provides accommodation to a NON-EU citizen must submit the declaration of hospitality within 48 hours.

The certificate is issued by the Municipality upon request. It is mandatory to apply for family reunion or for the long term permit.

ARDIS housing facilities
ARDIS is the regional agency devoted to studying facilities rights.
It offers academic grant, student housing accommodation, financial aid for outward accommodation, financial aid for international mobility and other facilities such as canteen, sport activities, etc.
ARDIS manages student housing complex located in Trieste, Udine, Pordenone and Gorizia. It offers single and twin rooms with private or shared bathroom with communal area for relax and study.
Who can benefit from ARDIS accommodation?
Lodges are dedicated ONLY to students and PhDs enrolled with one the regional universities (University of Udine, University of Trieste, SISSA), conservatories (Tartini, Tomadini) and ITS.
How to apply?
The annual public tender is posted in ARDIS website.
Interested students must apply in advance (around July) for the academic year.
Places are granted to who holds specific enrolment, merit, income (family household) and assets requirements through an annual public tender.
Application must be made usually before the end of July.Â
What about the rent?
Rooms, single or double, cost from 200€ to 290€ per month. Studios for 1 person cost €320 per month. Utilities bills are included in the rent.

To apply for ARDIS facilities a specific ISEE certificate is required. It is a document attesting personal and household condition of the student.
Students NOT resident in Italy have to provide the ISEE parificato that is issued by certified CAF (Centres for fiscal assistance) and may be requested also by e-mail. A list of certified CAF is available on Ardis website.

Find an accommodation
Looking for accommodation before your arrival is an asset to start well your new experience. You should begin searching for a place to stay at least a couple of months before the departure, above all if you have special needs (e.g pets).
How to search for accommodation?
There are many housing websites that match demand and offer. Most of adverts are only in Italian language.
Pay attention that also real estate agencies publish adverts on the web, so check always who you are getting in touch with when answering to adverts.
Another option are the private residences dedicated to students. Contact Welcome Office in Trieste or Udine to get a list.
Finally, once there, a good solution may be ask friends or colleagues.
What about real estate agencies?
If you rent a property through an estate agent, you must pay the agent’s fee, typically one or two month’s rent. Please verify the payment conditions in advance.
How to get in touch with landlords?
You can contact landlords by e-mail or phone, also in English.
How much is the monthly rent?
The rent is paid monthly and may range from € 250-450 for single rooms; from €500 for studios and from €650 for a two-room apartment, for long term rentals (1 year or more). Prices for short term rentals (1-6 months) are more expensive.
Monthly rent can vary based on city, the neighborhood and the facilities provided. For long term rentals, utilities bills are in general not included in the rent, ask always landlord about extra costs.
Be aware that:
– if you book an accommodation before coming you will be asked to pay a deposit
– you must be in Italy to sign personally the rent contract.
Are apartments suitably equipped?
Apartments are usually equipped with the following items of furniture: Kitchen, Beds, Tables and chairs, Couch, Wardrobes, closets, etc.
Before coming ask landlord about the furniture items available in the apartment or in the room (i.e. pillows, mattress, lamps, etc.) and about the bed equipment (bed linen, blanket, duvet, etc.).
Formalities when hosting family members/relatives/friends at home
Be aware that anyone who hosts Italian, EU, EEA citizens for more than 30 days (uninterrupted), must declare it to Questura by 48 hours after the property disposal.
If you host a Non EU citizens you have always to inform Questura by 48 hours.

If you would like to host guests in your house and when you are going to apply for family reunion, you should be aware that there are some formalities that must be accomplised by you. Â
In particular, property disposal communication has always to be sent to Questura within 48 hours when hosting NON EU citizens at home (family members, friends or guests).
