UWC Adriatic is part of the global United World Colleges (UWC) movement, a network of 18 schools and colleges across four continents united by the belief that education can be a force for peace and a sustainable future. Through a challenging academic and residential experience, UWC encourages young people to develop the skills, sense of responsibility and intercultural understanding needed to contribute positively to society.
UWC Adriatic brings together around 180 students aged 16 to 19 from over 80 countries. Students are selected by independent UWC national committees in their home countries based on merit, potential and motivation, regardless of their socio-economic background. More than 90% of students receive financial support, ensuring that access to the College is determined by talent and promise rather than financial means.
The academic programme is centred on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, internationally recognised for its rigour and breadth. Academic learning is combined with a strong emphasis on personal growth, community engagement and experiential education. Students live in residences integrated throughout the village of Duino, sharing daily life in a uniquely diverse and values-driven community.
Alongside their studies, students take part in an extensive co-curricular programme focused on community service, the arts, environmental responsibility, outdoor education and social entrepreneurship. Living and learning together, they are encouraged to challenge assumptions, engage respectfully with different perspectives and develop the confidence and skills to become active contributors to their communities and the wider world.
