EU Mobility residence permit for student or researcher
Permesso per mobilità studente o ricercatore
Intra EU mobility scheme of researcher and students allowes Non EU citizens, holders of valid resident permit of stay for study or research issued by an Eu Member State, to come and stay in Italy for period of less than 180 days or for more than 180 days (and for max 360 days) provided that:
- the period in Italy has been originally included in the study programme (i.e. EU mobility programs) or in the research hosting agreement.
No need to apply for an entry visa!
The period of stay in Italy must be clearly stated in the mobilty study program or in the hosting agreement to carry research activies in Italy.

Before coming to Italy, please make sure that you have:
- a place to stay
- a valid health insurance for the whole stay

Are you going to stay more than 180 days?
Holders of a valid research resident permit must request a permit of stay as “mobilità-ricercatore” by 8 days from their arrival in Italy to the local Police Headquarter (Questura).

Please contact your Italian hosting oganisation at least 3 months in advance and refer to it in order to sign the hosting agreement and get the nulla osta (entry clereance) on due time.

Before coming to Italy, please make sure that you have:
- a place to stay
- a valid health insurance for the whole stay. A proof should be submitted to the Police headquarter (Questura) for the permit of stay.

Are you coming to Italy in the framework of EU programme/project/Bilateral or multilater agreement that foresees the studies in Italy?
If so, holders of a study permit of stay must declare their presence by 8 days from the entry date to the local Poliche headquarter (Questura) without the need to apply for an entry visa nor for Italian residence permit of stay for study provided that the periodo of stay in Italy:
- is envisaged in the EU programme, Bilateral agreement, etc;
- the period of stay in Italy should not exceed 360 days;
Are you coming to Italy to carry out part of the studies out of EU programme/project/bilateral or multilater agreement that foresees the studies in Italy?
If so, you must submit the application for a permit of stay for study by 8 days from the entry date to the local Poliche headquarter (Questura).

- the permit of stay you have from the entry EU country
- the study program/project/etc.
